The event is open to all within the TTUHSC School of Medicine community who wish to attend
The Faculty Women's Club (FWC) of the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC) School of Medicine will hold a celebration dinner in honor of 50 years as an organization on February 7 at Skyviews restaurant in Lubbock.
This club has provided an opportunity for school of medicine faculty spouses and faculty members to become better acquainted with each other. Through educational programs and projects presented at monthly meetings, the Faculty Women’s Club has encouraged engagement in the community through a variety of donations and scholarships for medical students.
Established in 1973, the organization was first known as the Faculty Wives Club. The spouses of those who had been hired by the recently-established school of medicine joined together to form a way to get to know each other. Many of these individuals had been uprooted from their family and friends, so the organization became an important way to make Lubbock feel like home.
When Shirley Berk moved to Lubbock in 2006 with her husband, Steven L. Berk, M.D., the club quickly became an asset to her growing understanding of the community.
"The FWC was the first organization I joined,” said Berk, who found some of her best friends within this warm and friendly group. “I visited places in Lubbock that I never would have known existed, and the tours have helped me learn more about the Health Sciences Center and West Texas."
The 50th anniversary event is $50 per attendee and will take place on February 7th at Skyviews restaurant. Celebrations will kick off at 6 p.m. All members of the school of medicine community are welcome.
