After serving as CEO of Texas Tech Physicians for 15 years, Brent Magers retired on December 31, 2022.

A reception honoring his service to TTUHSC was held on December 12. Mr. Magers was presented with a pewter plate and rocking chair. Dean Steven Berk spoke to Mr. Magers’ accomplishments as CEO. These included doubling the annual revenue for the practice, tripling the annual revenue from our hospital contracts, Mr. Magers’ work in expanding our telemedicine efforts, his leadership during the pandemic, and his meaningful educational work at TTUHSC. Remarks were also given by Dr. Ariel Santos, Dr. Billy Philips, and Ms. Shalene Vick, all of whom reflected on Mr. Magers’ kindness, honesty, guidance, and friendship.

Mr. Magers shared a list of “funny things” that happened to him on the way to retirement. This included the friends he met along the way, the passion he found for teaching, the devotion he felt to the mission of the School of Medicine, and the strong relationship he had with his supervisor, Dean Berk. Mr. Magers also shared a David Letterman-esque top 10 list of retirement quotes. While some were comical, others were heartfelt and sentimental.

Thank you, Mr. Magers, for your leadership and dedication to our students, staff, faculty, and patients.
