Texas Tech Physicians’ Red Kettle Challenge Can Bring Relief to Those in Need

Over the years, the Salvation Army has become ubiquitous with holiday cheer. Stationed outside stores with bells and unforgettable red collection kettles, these donations support year-round programs and emergency assistance for those in need. While the Red Kettle Campaign is the Salvation Army’s major fundraising event each year, it might look different in 2020 than it has in the past.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Salvation army is putting a virtual spin on giving back to the community this year—creating a way to make a difference without leaving the house. These “online Red Kettles” are vital to the success of this annual campaign that supports so many struggling individuals within the community. Fortunately, Texas Tech Physicians aims to make a group effort that can really help people who need it.

Forming together as a team, Texas Tech Physicians invites all within the community to join in supporting the Salvation Army Virtual Red Kettle Challenge 2020.

How to Help

On the Texas Tech Physicians Team Page, individuals can donate through a safe and secure process. While Red Kettles are fewer and COVID-19 has made life even harder for those who are most vulnerable, the Texas Tech Physicians family has an easy opportunity to give more than ever before.

“The Salvation Army does good work in helping those going through various difficulties in life in our own community,” said Texas Tech Physicians Chief Innovations Officer Matt Driskill,  “and we have chosen them as a charity we recommend supporting this season of giving.”

These efforts have spread the charitable spirit in additional ways: Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC)’s Office of the President, School of Nursing and School of Health Professions joined Texas Tech Physicians and set up their own online red kettles in support.

Those who are able to participate are encouraged to do so through the Texas Tech Physicians Team Page, unifying our efforts and helping our friends and neighbors who need it most this holiday season.
