The YWCA of Lubbock honored Lindsay Penrose, Ph.D., assistant professor, Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology, with the 2018 Women of Excellence Award.

The YWCA recognizes and honors women in the community who have achieved excellence in their careers or professions and whose contributions to business, industry, organizations and the community.

Penrose, who received the Science and Medicine Award category, was described as the owner of two patents for gender selection, a prolific contributor to research, a dedicated professor to upcoming scientists and a committed volunteer in the Lubbock community. Serving on the boards of the Lubbock Area Teen Pregnancy Prevention Coalition and Teen Straight Talk, she shared the facts regarding the consequences of teens’ actions. In these arenas, Penrose addresses STDs, suicide, bullying, sex education, sexting and trafficking.

She helps physicians diagnose infertility causes in the clinical lab. Through her continued efforts, the 35 percent of couples who suffer from infertility benefit from Assisted Reproductive Technologies that will aid their probability of conception. She is an internationally recognized speaker on this subject, and was invited to speak at the American Society for Reproductive Medicine.

Since 1989, Women of Excellence award recipients have been inspiring others in Lubbock not only with their professional achievements but also with the work they do for others. Including this year’s eleven award recipients, the YWCA has honored 253 extraordinary women in the 30 years of the event.
