Presentation: The Role of Music Therapy in Pain Management and Comfort Care

The Integrative Medicine Lecture Series continues with a presentation by Robin Edwards, Ph.D. MT-BC, titled The Role of Music Therapy in Pain Management and Comfort Care. The presentation will occur on Wednesday, November 5 at noon in HSC1C100. Lunch will be provided starting at 11:50 a.m.

About the presentation: On this day of technological advances, music is ubiquitous. it is heard in stores, on car radios, cell phones, iPads, iPods, televisions, etc. With the 'everydayness' of our favorite songs, we can easily overlook the importance of music to both our health and emotions. This lecture will focus on how music can be used to enhance healing and decrease pain in both acute and chronic illnesses, as well as decrease stress and promote healthy interactions between patient and caregiver.

About the speaker: Robin Edwards earned her Ph.D. in music therapy from the University of Kansas, where she focused her research on evidence-based practice in music therapy. Her clinical experience and interests include traumatic brain injury rehabilitation, hospitalized children, children with special needs in the school setting, and speech and language development and disabilities.
