Ophthalmology professor receives award

EisenbaumAllan M. Eisenbaum, M.D., professor in the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Science, was named a recipient of the American Academy of Ophthalmology’s Secretariat Award.

The Secretariat Award recognizes special contributions to the Academy and to ophthalmology. Eisenbaum will have his name published in the annual meeting’s final program by the academy, and his photo on the academy’s website.

Eisenbaum was selected for his commitment to the development of an online ophthalmic knowledge base and for demonstrating superb and highly organized leadership. He has been on the Knowledge Base Pediatric Ophthalmology/Strabismus panel since its inception, first as vice chair, then as chair.

The panel has developed content for the knowledge base, which complements and goes beyond the knowledge base content used for maintenance of certification. With the addition of this content, the academy has a complete and comprehensive clinical knowledge base, which serves as a resource for members undergoing maintenance of certification and also for members interested in lifelong learning.
