Mohr of the Retired Senior Volunteer Program receives President’s Lifetime Service
Award
April 1, 2014
Paul Mohr received the President’s Lifetime Service Award for his volunteer efforts
at Texas Tech Physicians. Mohr was recognized by the Retired Senior Volunteer Program
(RSVP), through the Garrison Institute for Aging for volunteering more than 4,000
hours in his time at TTUHSC.
Mohr, who is 87 years-old, began volunteering at TTUHSC in 1993. He was presented
a lapel pin and a personalized certificate signed by U.S. President Barack Obama.
The award is presented to RSVP volunteers with 4,000 hours or more of volunteer service
over a lifetime. RSVP is one of the largest volunteer networks in the nation for people
age 55 and over.
In a letter to Mohr, President Obama states, “In my Inaugural Address, I stated that
we need a new era of responsibility — a recognition on the part of every American
that we have duties to ourselves, our nation, and the world. These are duties that
we do not grudgingly accept, but rather seize gladly, firm in the knowledge that there
is nothing so satisfying to the spirit than giving our all to a difficult task.
“Your volunteer service demonstrates the kind of commitment to your community that
moves America a step closer to its great promise. Thank you for your devotion to service
and for doing all you can to shape a better tomorrow for our great nation.”
