Marla Franklin is well known throughout TTUHSC for her bubbly personality and infectious
smile. She is the senior administrative assistant to the Department of Psychiatry
chairman. Franklin also acts as the department’s unofficial cheerleader. All who
know Franklin, know she has a real passion for life, and always sees the glass half-full.
She sees every day as an adventure, some better than others, but is very thankful
for her health, the fun and the disappointments she has had along the way.
Marla has done it all. She won roller skating awards, raced barrels, skydived, rode
a zip line, and rode a motorcycle across the country. Twice a week, she goes dancing
at the Senior Citizen’s Center. But, the reason psychiatry is so fortunate to have
her is the SPIRIT she brings to the department. Franklin is a perfect example of Service
Excellence, Patient First, Integrity, Respect, Innovation and Teamwork. Even though
Franklin’s job description doesn’t include patient interaction, she is always seen
talking to patients and visitors in the hallways, helping them find their way in our
maze, making them smile, and undoubtedly making everyone feel welcome. When anyone
visits the department, Franklin runs full speed ahead to ensure each person feels
welcome. The faculty, residents and staff all have a deep respect for Franklin and
her affection for the Department of Psychiatry and Texas Tech Physicians as a whole.
