Student National Medical Association to Host Scholarship Gala
November 12, 2013
The Student National Medical Association (SNMA) will host a scholarship gala, “A Celebration
of Culture,” from 6:30 p.m. to midnight Nov. 16 at the Lubbock Country Club, 3400
Mesa Road.
The scholarship banquet is a celebration of food, drinks and entertainment to respect
a variety of cultures. The funds raised go directly toward financial need-based scholarships
for School of Medicine students.
Last year, more than $26,000 was raised which went to two scholarships as well as
building an endowment.
Cost for the event is $40 for students, $125 for individuals or $1,000 for a table
of eight. The event will feature a seated dinner, silent and live auctions, photo
booth and entertainment performances. Attire is cocktail or cultural dress.
SNMA is one of the nation’s oldest and largest independent, student-run organizations
focused on the needs and concerns of culturally diverse medical students. Membership
includes more than 8,000 pre-medical and medical students, residents and physicians
nationally.
The TTUHSC School of Medicine chapter of SNMA participates in various projects including
mentoring high school students, organizing a community health fair, working with the
undergraduate community, and helping improve medical school curriculum and admissions.
