Melanie Hull, Mary Jane Ramirez, and Kelsey Karon received the 2013 SPIRIT Award for
Excellence.
"Near the beginning of the school year in August, a junior high aged female patient
came in to see one of our providers. While checking in at the front desk, the PSS
asked her if she was excited to start school. The young woman shyly said yes, but
was concerned because she was nervous because she did not have clothes or shoes to
wear. She knew the other children would have new clothes and new shoes to start out
the year. This moved the front desk PSS team. Together, they pooled their personal
money, and one ran out to Old Navy and purchased the patient new school clothes.
When the patient came out of her appointment, she was surprised to see that she had
new clothes for school. This group of PSS also cleaned out their closets and that
of their friends and daughters to find this child more clothes and shoes to wear to
school. This act of pure selflessness and kindness truly helped this child start her
school year off with a positive attitude. This is a great example of Service Excellence,
Patient First and Teamwork. I am so proud to work with this amazing group of PSS."
