Business Development COPIC: Monitoring and Improving Internal Referrals
July 9, 2013
Texas Tech Physicians of Lubbock has made much progress over the past few years resulting
in better financial performance, higher patient satisfaction, and a concerted effort
in business development. The Business Development COPIC has focused on the increase
of our percentage of premium payer patients and has resulted in improvement from about
32 percent five years ago, to about 45 percent now – the same work resulting in more
revenue for Texas Tech Physicians.
Now the Business Development COPIC has taken on the challenge of addressing the monitoring
and improving our internal referrals. If we can keep our referrals within Texas Tech
Physicians, instead of sending them out, we have the great potential of improving
our financial and eduational numbers and providing seamless care to our patients.
This can be another great example of working smarter, not harder and keeping patients
in-house, that will help us accomplish all of our goals and objectives. The first
step is to implement a monitoring and reporting system, which we hope to have in place
by Sept. 1, and then to actively identify ways to positively impact the number of
internal referrals.
