OB-GYN Residents and Faculty Present Research Findings During Annual Event
May 22, 2012
Twelve residents and several faculty members in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology
recently participated in the 21st Annual Resident Research Day.
The residents and their research mentors with the assistance of Lindsay Penrose, Ph.D.,
post-doctoral research associate, and Sam Prien, Ph.D., director of research for the
Department of OB-GYN, developed a research question, collected and analyzed data prior
to reporting their findings.
Edward Yeomans, M.D., chair of the Department of OB-GYN, and the department were pleased
to host Moss Hampton, M.D., associate professor and regional chair of the Department
of OB-GYN at the Permian Basin and vice chair of the American Congress of Obstetrics
and Gynecology District XI, who served as judge for the day.
Faculty members who served as research mentors include Robert Casanova, M.D., Naghma
Farooqi, M.D., Alita Loveless, M.D., Dana Phillips, M.D., Jennifer Phy, O.D., Roger
Yandell, M.D., Edward Yeomans, M.D., Sam Prien, Ph.D., and Lindsay Penrose, Ph.D.
Awards will be announced at the annual Resident Graduation on June 23.
Resident Research Day is a time to celebrate the research collaborations of residents
and their faculty mentors. Residents at all levels of training present an update on
the research they and their mentors have been working on since their first years of
residency.
This year’s topics included gestational diabetes, fertility and resident burnout.
The Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education requires residency programs
to provide residents with scholarly activity in a curriculum that must advance resident’s
knowledge of the basic principles of research.
