The Lubbock Perinatal Coalition, including TTP-OB-GYN, will host an After Father’s
Day Bash for young fathers and fathers-to-be and their significant others from 5 to
9 p.m. June 18 in the Academic Classroom Building.
The event will emphasize the importance of a father’s involvement in his child’s life
and include free dinner and childcare, community booths with free parenting resources,
a screening of the movie “Courageous,” and door prizes.
The coalition—a project of Linda Brice, Ph.D., R.N., associate professor in the School
of Nursing — involves community organizations including the March of Dimes, TTP —
OB-GYN, the Larry Combest Community Health and Wellness Center, Teen Parents of Lubbock,
the Texas Department of State Health Services Region 1, the Garrison Institute on
Aging, the City of Lubbock Health Department, UMC Health System, the United Way and
others.
The goal of the coalition is to decrease the region’s high incidence of pre-term births,
low birth weight babies, infant mortality and teen pregnancy, through outreach and
education.
